Wednesday's at the Library.

We have this book called 'Day by day a Week Goes Round'. For whatever reason the boys think this book is so interesting because I've read it so many times I have it memorized. It goes through each day of the week and the things this family does each day. It says... "...we hear stories, read a poem, make a project to take home. Teddy bear, teddy bear, do you see me? Wednesday's at the library."

Since Tyler deals with small businesses for work stuff, often times we finds out about things going on in the community without really having to try to. He heard that on Wednesday they were going to be bringing in some Great Pyrenees therapy dogs. We thought it would be cool for the boys to see. They LOVED it. These dogs were not only humongous, but SO calm around all the children (who were seriously swarming them) that even Zayden got brave enough to pet them. The dogs were amazing. I've never seen such a great big dog be so calm and gentle with children. After they talked about what the dogs do in hospitals for the children there, they asked if anyone had questions. Quincy was the first kid to raise his hand, and it made me smile-- knowing he'll be in kindergarten this fall and seeing him sit cross legged on the floor and raising his hand, suddenly he looked so grown up. When they pointed to him to ask his question he got shy and forgot, but later told us that he was going to ask how old the dogs get.

I was surprised to learn that they only eat up to 3 cups of food a day. The male, Jasper, weighed 120LBS, while the female, Moxie weighed 100LBS. Pretty shocking that such large dogs each such a little amount of food, but the owner explained they are pretty sedentary. We did find out they typically live for 10-12 years. Their fur color and size made them excellent dogs for sheep herding, originally. Apparently they are quite protective and territorial of their "stuff".
They boys had a great time!
After the library we headed up to my parent's house to borrow their sleeping bags so we could go camping. On our way home we stopped to have a late lunch at a restaurant called Beaches and then took a walk along the Columbia River waterfront where we collected some river rocks and a few sea shells. The boys loved collecting things and Zayden was fascinated with the sand.
