Quincy:
It’s hard to believe next month Quincy will be 5 years old
(yes, I wrote this like last month). Although we aren’t starting him in school
quite yet, as he’s got a late august birthday, he IS ready.
-He can read most simple 1 grade level books by himself.
-He can write simple sentences by himself.
-He’s starting to do simple 1st and 2nd
grade level math. He’s become quite good at addition and is working on his
subtraction. He can add double and triple digits well. We stick to subtracting
simple numbers from 10, since he can count on his hands.
-Is extremely logical about everything. He wants to know WHY
he has to do something and if he doesn’t agree with it then you can be assured
you will hear a reason why he SHOULDN’T have to comply.
-Loves being he boss. I frequently find him ‘parenting’
Braxton. I know this is pretty common for an oldest child; Although Braxton
does not appreciate being told what to do by his “well meant’ big brother.
-Is starting to learn to tie his shoes by himself.
-Has completed basic level swim lessons, we look forward to
putting him into other sports the rest of this fall and into next spring. He is
thoroughly excited about this.
-Loves his cars and balls… it’s pretty common to find these
toys out most frequently of all the toys they have,
-Loves to run. I will never understand why little boys have
SO MUCH ENERGY!
-Says funny things: Q calls the professional golfers on TV
‘dads’ because they are older men. He told Tyler that when he gets older he
wants to be a dad and golf with the other dads on TV.
Quincy fits oldest child personality to the tee. He
understands more than we wish he did. He’s incredibly bright and eager to
learn. He wants to show his younger brother how to do things. He strives for
perfection and often times I have to reassure him that it’s okay for things to
not to be perfect. He hates to make mistakes. He’s still a picky eater although
I have got him to start eating two’s of new things. Perhaps someday he’ll be
better. Ultimately I feel blessed to
have Quincy as our oldest child, he is great example to his younger brothers
and the friendship that they will have as they get older will only deepen.
Love you Q.
