Privledges of being a parent:

Taking embarrassing pictures of your kids!
:)
Due to this nursing mom I think Braxton has found a certain sort of obsession with his own nipples... it's disturbing and hilarious at the same time. Personally I think these pictures should be in his wedding slide show!

Quincy has really taken an interest lately in the creative department. He really is enjoying coloring, writing, trying to read, and most recently painting.
Tyler brought home a clay piggy bank that was a leftover prize from some games during one of their meetings at work... needless to say Quincy was thrilled at the idea of getting to paint it.

 Hard at work....

Quincy never ceases to amaze us with his observation skills over every day things. While at Walmart last week Quincy leaned towards Tyler as they were finishing checking out and said: "Dad, that lady lost a tooth!" I couldn't help but laugh about his simple observation and acknowledge that he was right. Tyler also noted that she was missing part of one of her legs too and told Quincy: "Yeah, she lost a leg too." He looked a little confused and disturbed at the thought of 'losing a leg.' We sure got a kick out of it though.

Crafty Project

I have always had a lavender spring wreath ever since we've been married. I think there's something pleasant about walking to your door and having a pretty wreath greet you before you walk inside. With that being said, I HAVE added a Christmas wreath and that had been the extent of my wreaths. A few weeks ago, while at my parents house my mom asked if I would like an old fall wreath she had made. I've never really been into fall decorations, but recently (perhaps it's old age, or pregnancy, or something) I have come to enjoy fall. The wreath originally consisted of fabric made leafs.... sort of etsy-ish looking. By themselves the fabric leafs looked a little dated so I thought that it would add to them. The wreath above is how it turned out. I really do like it.

Quincy even contributed to it. He was responsible for collecting the pine cones and the acorns. And I have to write a funny little story about Q, speaking of acorns. A busy street nearby has a lot of Oak trees lining a small shopping 'mall'. While we were on the side walk I asked if he would like to gather some of the acorns that were on the ground. He excitedly agreed and began filling his pockets. He was so happy and exclaimed as we were crossing the street to go back home, "Mom, my nuts are dropping!" Although I knew exactly what context he was using the phrase I couldn't help but chuckle to my self hearing it come out of his mouth. Then later as we reached our apartments to check our mail he said, "Mom, I'm holding my nuts in my pocket." Such irony... I'm sure he will laugh about this when he's older.  I got a little laugh or two out of it. :)

Pease Porridge Hot......

.... Pease Porridge cold... Pease porridge in a pot 9 days old. Some like it hot, some like it cold. Some like to sit in the pot, even though they are TOO old.

Funny Quincy

It seems as of late that Quincy is really starting to look grown up. His legs seems longer, his talking is more thoughtful and the things that we hear from him are often quite funny.

The other day he asked if he could play outside on our patio since it was a relatively mild and sunny day. I told him he could but he had to put some shoes on first. He came back with these on:

Quincy said to me.... "Mom, are these on the right feet? 'Cuz they kinda hurt. Maybe they are on the wrong feet.?"

I couldn't help but smile and insisted that I take his picture first before telling him that you do not need socks on under your flip flops. :)

Quincy is now in sunbeams and for the most part it has been a positive experience for him. Recently our Stake was putting together a "blanket drive", for lack of a better term. They were asking members to donate blankets that were twin size or bigger to Japan. Our Primary children were even involved in the process. A Stake Primary Leader came in to talk to the kids....

[Tyler was sitting in the back of primary to supervise because Quincy was having a rough time getting settled ]

Here is the account he gives on what was said:

Stk Lady standing in front of the primary talking to ALL the kids: "Do any of you kids have a favorite blanket?"

Quincy (who's standing right in front of her be/c he's in the sunbeams row jumps up): "I DO! IT'S BLUE!"

Stk Lady (trying to keep addressing everyone): "Well can you imagine if your favorite blanket got lost?"

Quincy (still thinks this is two person conversation): "Oh, no. My blanket's not lost! It's at home.

Stk Lady (seeing that Quincy is not going to give up this "two person conversation" finally says to just him): " Well, you know what? The kids in Japan LOST their favorite blankets."

Quincy (looking puzzled): "Well, I don't live in JAPAN... I live in Oregon!"

[Tyler admits that he could hardly contain himself while listening to our child during this whole conversation. Indeed, many of the teachers were smiling and chuckling under their breath.]

Yes. Our little Quincy is quite the funny kid. :)

The Fun Parts of Summer...

Our summer hasn't been entirely eventful.
True, we have taken a little 'vacation' to Fruitland and Tyler's had a little time off.... but mostly we've just enjoyed spending time together on the weekends. We've also had some strange summer weather, like rainstorms and 55*?!
Seriously, I can deal with rain and mild weather for 9 months, but please don't cut into my glorious 3 months of summer sunshine!
Luckily, it has warmed up and I am reminded of things I enjoy about summertime....

We love going to parks!

Braxton loves going out for a stroll in the park and Quincy loves having some freedom on the playground equipment.

We love fresh fruit!

A few clients at Tyler's bank in Damascus have brought in some fresh produce and so we've had the pleasure of fresh peaches and strawberries.... there is nothing better than fresh fruit in the summertime!

We love the outdoors!

I love that my flower pots are in full bloom. There's nothing like looking out our sliding glass window to see some fresh flowers growing.

We love the warm weather!

Quincy has discovered that he enjoys being able to take off his underwear and pants to 'live on the wild side' and pee outdoors. He discovered this new activity while at the Pickett's house, when Karen jokingly said "Go pee out in the yard Quincy." He took her advice, and Tyler's -- that he should ditch the bottom half of his clothes to avoid getting anything on him-- and went.
Needless to say, Quincy had a great time peeing in the yard and was highly disappointed that he can't pee off our patio-- we informed him that the neighbors below probably wouldn't like getting pee on them.

Isn't summertime wonderful?

Quincy funnies...

***We ask Quincy about how nursery was and he tells us how much he loves it and wants to go again. He then very seriously looks at us and says in an excited voice, "Hey! Lets go right NOW!"

***While we're all in the car driving Tyler to work we drive over a patch of gravel where they were doing some construction. It was a minor bump in the road, but Quincy yells from the back, "Hey Dad! Watch where you're driving! Stay on the road!"

***One day, while feeling a little down about motherhood I look over to Quincy laying on his bed and ask him in I'm a bad mom. He smiles and answers, "I think you're a great mom!"

***While watching the Price is Right one morning I comment on how I want to go to one of the destination showcases to some Caribbean place. Quincy looks at me and says, "You can't go there Mom, the TV is closed."

***After commenting on how Quincy's jeans are starting to get old and ripping a bit at the knees I tell him we need to buy some new pants. He says, "Yeah we need to get some more at the jean store."

***While Tyler sings Yankee Doodle, Quincy looks very puzzled and asks Tyler, "What's a pony dad? Is it like a motorcycle or something?"

***When Quincy stayed with my parents while we were in Vegas he watched Grandpa Loren cleaning Grammies hair out of the bathroom drain. He says to Grandpa Loren, "My mom's hair plugs up the drain and my dad gets mad at her." (What's funny is that my hair has never plugged up the drain, nor has Tyler got mad at me. But he associated seeing my hair go down the drain to the situation and put two and two together.)

***Also while at Grammie and Grandpa Loren's house Quincy tells them, "My dad's toenails are GROSS because someone stepped on them while he was playing basketball."

***Yesterday I was watching the end of the movie 'Ghosts of Girlfriend's Past' and while Matthew McConaughey speeds down a snow covered hillside blaring Elvis Presley's 'Burning Love' from the car radio and barely dodging trees and bushes I say to Quincy, "He's driving like a maniac." Quincy who appears to be fixated on the crazy driving from Matthew McConaughey pries his eyes away and gets a serious look on his face only to say, "Yeah he's a crazy driver. Just like Grandpa Loren!" (Ba ha ha HA! IT was SO funny!! )

Oh this little boy can be such a handful, but when he says funny things like this... I can't help but love him to pieces!

A little Quincy update...

Having a newborn in itself is enough to keep us on our toes as parents.... but adding a 2 and 1/2 year old little boy...... it's quite the adventure around here everyday.

Just so our blog doesn't get all Braxton-eeee... I wanted to give a little update on some of the funny everyday things that Quincy does.

I try to write down the funny and entertaining things that Quincy does, here are some from January:
**Quincy ran into his room and then came to me and said, "Did you make my bed mom?" I replied to him, "Yes, I did." He then gave this very sweet look and smiled really big and said, "THANKS for making my bed mom!" (Moments as a mother that you treasure!)

**Quincy now knows Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Once there Was a Snowman, Itsy Bitsy Spider, and the ABC's song. He sings them quite frequently to Braxton.

**While I'm sitting on the bathroom floor by the toilet doubled over in pain from a contraction Quincy rubs my head and says "It's Ok Mom. You feel better?"

**Quincy notices me whincing from Braxton kicking and very seriously looks at me and says "Don't kick Braxton Mom! It's OK."

** Tyler calls Quincy 'Mr. Ding Dong' and Quincy replies with , "I not Mr. Ding Dong. I Mr Howard!"

Here's are some more Quincy funnies from the month of February:

** While Quincy takes a bath in the tub Tyler shaves his face in the bathroom sink. Quincy looks up at Tyler's chin covered in white shaving cream and says, "Ho, ho, ho! Merry Chrtistmas Dad!"

** After going for a little family walk and playing in a park I pick a little white daisy flower and give it to Quincy. He looks at it and says, "You picked this flower for me mom? Oh! It's BEAUTIFUL."

** Braxton lays in his cradle in our living room asleep with his fist out of the blankets, Quincy runs up to him sees his fist and yells, "Pound it Braxton!" After which he proceeds to bump fists with B. He then says "High five Braxton!" (Braxtonlays there sleeping and does nothing.)

**Tyler tells Quincy that mom's foot fell asleep. Very seriously Quincy looks down at my foot, gets close to it and then tells it, "Wake up!"

**Quincy recites some of the lines from a Sunbelt Granola bar commercial from memory..."Sunbelt, Sunbelt, chocolate chip... don't let the secret slip."

Although Quincy has his 2 year old 'moments'... it's little things like these that remind me why we love having him as a part of our family!

I guess we've been doing a lot of shopping lately....

..............Because look at how pooped Quincy was this day:
Here he is passed out in the Goodwill shopping cart. We moved his from place to place and he remained sleeping like this:
It almost was like he was dead. It reminded me of the movie 'Weekend at Bernies'. That movie always made me laugh which perhaps is why I couldn't manage to hold in my laughter when seeing him in these different positions and place still 'lifeless'.
During one of our shopping endeavours he did manage to stay away long enough to find a chair he liked:
Like his own personal thrown.

There's a new Sheriff in Town

Quincy and I went with Tyler so he could have his fingerprints taken at the Sheriff's department. Although it was Quincy's nap time and he was slightly irritable... he was happy for a few minutes after receiving his Sheriff's badge and Firefighter badge. Notice where he wanted to put them.

Funny Man

Quincy found these sunglasses at Grammie and Grandpa Loren's house.... for some reason we thought he looked pretty funny in them.

What do you think?

Sunday, May 3, 2009

What was he thinking?

While I was out shopping when Tyler and Quincy were gone I saw this in the parking lot:

For some reason I thought it was funny.

I was just curious to know what all of you thought.... if this picture had a caption, what do you suppose it would say?

Mr. Jabber Jaws

I thought I would share a funny story that happened last week. On Wednesday afternoon we headed to the Meridian Library to make our usual movie trip.

Quincy has recently been obsessed with his pockets. He walks around frequently with one hand in his pant pocket, or one in his shirt pocket, or two hands in both pockets. When we got to the library Tyler went to the movie section to pick out some DVDs. Quincy and I headed to the kids section to play with the toys. While he was running to the kids corner, with two hands in his pocket he suddenly stopped and turned to the library lady at the desk and said, "I have a pocket." She said... "Oh, you have two pockets?" to which he replied, "Two" and ran off. It was so funny. He has become quite social these days. Telling complete strangers everything he knows.
Our little pocket man!

There is a nurutring side to my son.

Last Christmas Quincy's grandparents gave him these marshmallows.

He finally finished them.....with some help from Elmo.

Sometimes Quincy gets in these silly moods where he does funny stuff. I was cleaning out his closet and pulled out his stroller so I could vacuum. He climbed up into it by himself and sat there as if he were going to go for a ride. Then he decided that he needed to take Elmo on his pretend walk.

After he got tired of pretend walks, Tyler kept him happy with the fruity marshmallows. I'm guessing he was in a generous mood because he continued to "share" his mallows with Elmo in this fashion:

One for me........

One for Elmo............

Just Kidding.....two for me and NONE for Elmo.
