Quincy's Birthday Events!

I woke up Tyler earlier than we'd normally wake up, just so we could wake up Quincy. We wandered quietly into his room to find him still groggy and sleepy, but with the hint of a faint smile on his face as we sang to him:
"Happy Birthday to You, Happy Birthday to You, Happy Birthday Dear Quincy, Happy Birthday to You!"
Unfortunately the day didn't get better for him at first. Quincy had to get some shots... we had originally scheduled to have his shots done last week. Tyler went out of town for the beginning of this week and we had family coming in town, so we didn't want to have to worry about shots... we even made the appointment, with another Doctor because his doctor left the office, and the front desk lady called the day of our original appt. to inform us he couldn't come in because he wasn't 1!! Are you kidding me? I told her he was going to be 1 next week ! She still insisted that he couldn't get his shots until he was 1 years old, or after. I honestly can't tell you what 7 days difference makes in getting his shots, but let me tell you I felt horrible that he had to get them ON his birthday!! I would've scheduled them after his birthday except for he's covered with his current insurance until his first birthday, so we had to do it the day of while he was still insured. Poor little guy.

The picture above is before we even left... you'd think he was aware of the fact that he was on his way to the Doctor's to get shots!

As soon as we buckled him in his car seat though... he forgot all about the shots premonition and was happy to be going somewhere.

He was even happy at the doctors office in the waiting room... playing with the toys there. Which I always think are probably COVERED in germs from other kids. Oh well.

When we got into the back room we had a male nurse whose name was Jermaine. He was a black guy and really nice and well intentioned, but Quincy looked more terrified than ever to see him. All he knew was that he wasn't the really large white lady nurse who normally sees him. (She's the best nurse... great-- and quick, with the shots.) We had him sitting on the table and Jermaine was trying to take his temperature under his arm when he freaked out. I guess the idea of a strange large black man trying to lift his arm and stick something under it was too much for him. He was screaming hysterically, like the black man was trying to kill him! I felt awful, for both of them really. Soon enough Jermaine left the room to get Dr. Peterman and Quincy was able to regain his composure after lots of reassurance from mom and dad that everything was okay. After the usual check on stuff, we found out Quincy weighs 18lbs 3 oz, and is 28 1/4" tall. He's only in the 3rd% for weight, and the 13% for height. He's SO small. Of course, neither Tyler of I are really big. Still, we thought he'd be a little bigger.

After Dr. Peterman was gone, Jermaine came back to administer the shots... it was the most heartbreaking experience. Quincy freaked out as the huge scary black man was holding his legs down and jabbing in 4... yes 4... needles into his little legs. I felt like the worst mother, having my baby get stuck 4 times, on his birthday none the less..... that stupid front desk lady!! We gave him some Tylenol and he fell asleep on the way home.
When he woke up he watched me decorate the house, as he munched on handfuls of cheerios! He was really happy, and had forgot all about Jermaine and the shots disaster.
Birthday Streamers everywhere.
After I finished decorating, we headed out to float the Boise River with my family. (Unfortunately, I didn't take pictures before we left, though I meant to. And obviously I couldn't take the camera on the river.) It was lots of fun. Quincy was able to ride in my parents raft and ended up falling asleep the last 1/2 hour of the river. We were all thoroughly exhausted after it. We got back just in time to shower and finish getting our house picked up for everyone to come over.
His Elmo Birthday cake. He LOVES Elmo and was happy to see him on his cake.
Now usually Quincy isn't proper when it comes to eating and has no problem smashing, squishing, and throwing food around, but with all the cameras he was a little apprehensive about eating the strange chocolate cake in front of him.
In fact, he wanted to be fed with a fork! I think he enjoyed it though.
After we cleaned him up a little, it was time to open presents. He had fun looking at all his new stuff. He got some Easter eggs... which was and still will be one of his favorite presents. --My parents were cleaning out stuff in their garage and figured we'd get more use out of them, than they would. --He loves to open and close them. It's even more fun when he finds something inside of them.

He got a new outfit from his Great Grandma and Grandpa Howard.

A huge bag of Mega Bloks from his Grammie and Grandpa Loren.
Some goodies from his Uncle Spencer and Johnathon.
And a four wheeler that makes lots of noise from his Uncle Derek, Aunt Kelly, Grandma Teesy, and Grandpa Kent.
We were so glad that we were able to share all of our Birthday fun with our families!
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You EVERYONE!

Thanks guys... it WAS fun. I still surprised at how well he did on the river, especially two days in a row.

Jennifer-- yeah I don't blame your boys for being scared of beards... strange men are creepy enough without facial hair.
